Year 12 & 13 Students Gain Vital Emergency Skills in Hands-On Workshop

We were excited to offer our Year 12 and 13 students a valuable two-hour practical workshop, led by a team of skilled clinicians from the UHP Emergency Department.

This hands-on session provided invaluable learning opportunities, covering essential life-saving topics such as CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), defibrillator training, basic 999 emergency response techniques, and key elements of the Stop the Bleed campaign.

The workshop was facilitated by a team that included two experienced ER doctors and a final-year medical student. Their expertise and guidance helped our students build upon their existing first aid knowledge, while introducing them to critical skills that could make a life-saving difference in emergencies.

Throughout the session, students actively practised CPR techniques, familiarised themselves with the proper use of defibrillators, and learnt how to respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations. The Stop the Bleed segment was especially impactful, as students gained crucial insight into how to manage severe bleeding and prevent fatalities in trauma situations—an essential skill for anyone involved in first aid or emergency response.

This workshop not only strengthened our students' emergency first aid capabilities but also empowered them with the confidence and knowledge to handle real-life medical emergencies. We are grateful to the UHP Emergency Department team for providing such an enriching and memorable learning experience, equipping our students with life-saving skills they can use in the future.
