Students Complete Mentoring Programme at University of Plymouth

Recently, a group of 12 Year 10 students went on an exciting trip to the University of Plymouth campus. Their visit marked the culmination of a 10-week journey through the Opportunity Plymouth Mentoring Programme. The students were in for a treat as they were welcomed with delicious brownies and drinks before diving into a day filled with exploration and celebration.

The day kicked off with an introduction to university life, giving the students a glimpse into what their academic futures could look like. They then set off on a guided tour of the campus, soaking in the atmosphere and imagining themselves as part of the university community one day.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the certificate presentation ceremony, where Dr. Suane Gibson from the Institute of Education honoured each student for their dedication and hard work throughout the programme.

Reflecting on their 10-week journey, the students covered a diverse range of topics, including envisioning their futures, exploring career pathways, and understanding the various post-16 options available to them. They also looked into various practical skills like interview techniques, CV writing, and goal setting, equipping them with essential tools for their future endeavours.

One student, Robin, shared his thoughts on the experience, expressing ‘ I found the overall experience enjoyable and the group interacted well. I particularly enjoyed being creative when it came to producing vision boards.’

The Celebration Event at the University of Plymouth was not just a culmination of a 10-week programme; it was a testament to the students' resilience, curiosity, and determination to shape their futures.
