Year 10's take part in Maths day at University of Plymouth

A cohort of Year 10 students recently visited University of Plymouth to take part in a day full of mathematics beyond the confines of the GCSE curriculum.

Representing various disciplines across the campus, these eager learners took part in a day brimming with workshops designed to showcase the multifaceted applications of mathematics in the real world.

Under the expert guidance of university lecturers, students were treated to a diverse array of sessions, each offering a unique perspective on different mathematical principles. From the intricacies of cybersecurity, where students unravelled clues within a simulated doctor's office to gain access to her computer, to uncovering mysteries behind mathematical card tricks.

Remarkably, one group of students, initially apprehensive, astounded themselves by mastering all the cube numbers up to 100 cubed within a mere 10 minutes! Their newfound confidence and proficiency served as a testament to the transformative power of experiential learning.

The workshops and seminars also offered students a first-hand glimpse into the academic life of university students. In this immersive environment, students not only honed their mathematical skills but also gained invaluable insights into higher education.

As the day drew to a close, students departed with minds buzzing with newfound knowledge and a renewed appreciation for the boundless possibilities of mathematics.
