Year 9 Students Excel in Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Practice Walk
52 of our enthusiastic Year 9 students embarked on an enriching adventure as they participated in their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) practice walk. The walk aimed to instil valuable skills and foster a sense of adventure among our young explorers.
Starting the journey from school, students set off on foot towards Cremyl, boarding the ferry to Mount Edgecombe. Divided into 8 groups, the students had to use their newfound skills to cook their own food using a trangia and navigate their way around the Mount Edgecombe loop.
Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including gusts of up to 40 mph, the students showed remarkable resilience and maturity throughout the expedition.
Following a day filled with exploration and learning, the students made their way back to the ferry point, marking the successful completion of their practice walk.
The entire group emerged as shining examples of dedication and adaptability, showcasing their readiness to tackle future challenges. Undeterred by adverse weather, they embraced the opportunity to hone their skills and forge lasting memories.
This Bronze Duke of Edinburgh practice walk proved to be a resounding success, empowering Year 9 students with essential life skills and fostering a spirit of resilience and camaraderie. As they continue their DofE journey, these students are well-prepared to navigate their next expedition.
