Baby Vinnie and Mum Linsey Share Insights with Child Development Students

In a heartwarming and educational session, the year 9 and 10 Child Development students at Scott College had the privilege of hosting Baby Vinnie and his mum, Linsey.

The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for students to witness first hand the intricacies of early childhood development, from feeding routines to sleeping patterns and everything in between.

Before the formal session began, the year 13 students couldn't resist grabbing a quick cuddle with Baby Vinnie. Throughout the visit, Vinnie proved to be a delightful companion, showcasing his daily routine of feeding, nappy changes, and, of course, receiving lots of cuddles.

Linsey generously shared her experiences of pregnancy and childbirth, engaging the students with insightful discussions. The students eagerly asked questions, exploring topics such as Caesarean sections, emergency and planned procedures, pain relief options like spinal blockers and epidurals, and the remarkable aftercare provided by healthcare professionals for both the baby and mother.

The students delved into the nuances of feeding choices, learning about the differences between bottle and breast-feeding. Marianna's question about support for new mums in feeding choices, along with enquiries about expressing, highlighted the students' keen interest in the practical aspects of caring for newborns.

The session included a comprehensive demonstration on changing nappies, during which Amelia's request to hold Vinnie's hand tugged at heartstrings. The students witnessed the importance of routines in a baby's life and learnt about Vinnie's sleeping patterns, discovering the significance of tracking growth and development using centile measure charts and the famous red book.

Gracie, inspired by the visit, said, "I want to be a midwife and to help mums and new babies. It is just so rewarding"

Alycia's return at lunchtime for more questions and cuddles underscored the impact of the visit, while Ariane marveled at Vinnie's size and alertness. Robin and Scarlette, already captivated by Baby Vinnie, eagerly requested another visit in a few months to witness his progress, growth, and development.

The students also learnt about the fascinating phenomenon of changing baby eye colours, culminating in a captivating and educational experience that left a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Baby Vinnie and Linsey's visit to Scott College became more than just an informative session; it was a heartwarming journey into the world of early childhood development. The students gained practical insights, asked thought-provoking questions, and were inspired to consider future careers in supporting mothers and newborns.

The anticipation for Baby Vinnie's future visits echoes the positive impact of this unique and enriching experience on the students at Scott College.
