Year 12 Build Community Connections

A group of our amazing Year 12 students recently attended the Generations Together Event at Millfields Inspired, where they took part in a heartwarming intergenerational project alongside children from St Joseph’s Primary School and care home residents from Parkwood House and Nazareth House.
The event brought together three generations of the local community for a day of creativity, collaboration and connection. Our students carefully planned and delivered a variety of engaging arts and crafts activities, designed to encourage participation and interaction between the younger children and older residents.
Throughout the day, our students demonstrated exceptional confidence, kindness and maturity. They worked thoughtfully to ensure that every individual felt included, supported and able to take part in a meaningful and enjoyable experience. Their ability to adapt activities and communicate across different age groups was a true reflection of their developing professional skills.
Opportunities such as the Generations Together Event play an important role in building a strong and collaborative community. Supporting relationships between children, young people and older adults helps to foster understanding, empathy and mutual respect.
For our Year 12 students, the experience also provided valuable personal and academic development. Skills such as confidence, resilience and compassion – all essential within Health and Social Care, were clearly demonstrated throughout the event.
Taya, Year 12 student shared:
"It was such a rewarding experience to see everyone smiling and working together. We loved helping the children and residents create something special, and it really showed us how important connection and communication are in health and social care."
We are extremely proud of our students and the positive way they represented Scott Medical College. They were a credit to the school and to themselves.
