Scott College Unites for Jamaica Hurricane Fundraiser

Scott College came together for a fantastic charity fundraising day in support of communities affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Ninety days on from the hurricane’s impact across parts of the Caribbean, many areas are still transitioning from emergency response to recovery, facing ongoing public health and infrastructure challenges.
The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible, with students and staff working together to organise a variety of creative fundraising activities. Scott College raised a total of £121.70 through a series of events filled with energy, laughter and team spirit.
Highlights included beautiful handmade crochet hedgehogs created by Year 9 student Sienna, who spent hours crafting them at home to sell for charity. Year 10 students hosted a popular bake sale packed with delicious treats, while a cracker-eating contest brought plenty of laughter as Daniel (Year 10) and Renil (Year 9) successfully ate three crackers in 60 seconds to win a jump-the-queue lunch pass.
The ever-popular “Pie the Teacher” challenge was a huge success, with staff bravely volunteering to be covered in squirty cream. Adding to the occasion, the canteen served special Jamaican-inspired food for the day, helping everyone celebrate Caribbean culture while supporting the cause. Music at both break times kept spirits high, with lots of dancing from students and staff.
Sienna commented,
“It was such a fun day, but it also felt really meaningful knowing we were helping people who really need it. Everyone got involved, and it made a big difference.”
Miss Honeyghan said,
“I am incredibly proud of all the students and especially the Diversitas group… There was a real buzz and vibe in both schools. My family were heavily affected by the hurricane, especially in St Elizabeth, and I know this will go far when converted. Grateful and blessed.”
Mrs Chalmers added,
“It was great to see them laughing and enjoying raising money — great support and supporting each other.”
It was a day that truly reflected Scott College’s ethos of learning to care and caring to learn.
