Scott Medical and Healthcare College Awarded the Rainbow Flag Award

We are delighted to share that Scott Medical and Healthcare College has been awarded the Rainbow Flag Award, recognising our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ students.
Over the past year, staff and students have taken part in training sessions, workshops, and a full-campus inclusion review. Each subject area reflected on how to make lessons and school life more inclusive, ensuring every student feels respected and supported. The Rainbow Flag Award celebrates organisations that take positive steps to promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and our students’ active participation was central to this achievement.
In their latest workshop, thirty students explored LGBTQIA+ terminology, representation, the Equality Act, and media portrayals of LGBTQIA+ individuals. They also shared their own perspectives. Year 9 student Millie reflected, “It is so important for the whole campus to come together to share their ideas.” Year 10 student Megan added, “It was so good to be listened to and asked about how we feel about our rights.” Their voices highlighted the importance of collaboration and being heard in shaping an inclusive school environment.
Rhianna and Kathleen, Year 12 students, said: “We have been part of The Power of Us inclusive lunchtime club for several years, and attending an open student discussion workshop is just perfect to hear our voices and support each other.” They added, “We are an important team.”
Guests from the Intercom Trust, Hollie Wright and Debbie Ley, joined the session to support the students and listen to their ideas. Staff also visited to show encouragement, and the students’ professionalism and enthusiasm further demonstrated the College’s commitment to inclusion.
Mrs Chalmers, Miss Sargent, Mrs Rust, and Ms Moss expressed their pride in The Power of Us, our LGBTQIA+ student group, praising the students for helping make Scott Medical and Healthcare College a welcoming and supportive community for all.
