Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Across Exmoor

Our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students recently undertook their final expedition, exploring the stunning yet demanding terrain of Exmoor. Over the course of four days and three nights, they faced a true test of their stamina, resilience, and outdoor capabilities.

Building on the experience they gained during a prior practice expedition on Dartmoor, the group approached this significant challenge well-prepared, confident, and determined to succeed.

The journey kicked off early in the morning, with students leaving school at 7am to travel to their starting point in Dulverton. Right from the beginning, the students showcased improved navigation skills and strong teamwork, demonstrating the progress they had made through their training.

Although they encountered frequent rain showers during the trek, the group stayed upbeat and resilient. Thankfully, the weather often cleared in the evenings, providing opportunities to cook outdoors and relax with a game of football. Spirits stayed high, even after a memorable moment when one student took an unexpected dip in the river at Tarr Steps!

On the final day, all the students arrived at the finish line in Lynmouth, beaming with pride and accomplishment. Congratulations to everyone who took part—we look forward to celebrating your Gold Award successes in the near future.
