Silver Duke of Edinburgh Groups Excel in Recent Devon Expedition

Our Silver Duke of Edinburgh students recently completed their final expedition—three days filled with hiking, camping, and navigating across the Devon countryside. The journey was challenging and pushed them beyond their comfort zones, allowing them to put their preparation and training into action.

Each day covered a different part of the route. On Day 1, the teams started in Ivybridge and walked to South Brent. Day 2 took them from South Brent to Michelcombe, and on Day 3, they completed the final leg from Newbridge to Dartmeet. Throughout the expedition, the students carried their own equipment, camped overnight, and worked together to find their way using maps and compasses.

It was clear that the teams had grown since their practice expedition. They applied the feedback they received, showing noticeable improvements in their planning, navigation, and teamwork skills.

Even when faced with tiredness and tough sections of the route, the students stayed positive and supported each other. They managed their time well and completed each day’s journey on schedule.

Overall, the expedition was a great achievement. It tested their independence, teamwork, and resilience—and every student met the challenge with determination.

Congratulations to all the students who took part!
