DofE Silver and Gold Students Take on Their First Outdoor Expedition Training Day

Our Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) students recently participated in their first outdoor expedition training day in the beautiful Merrivale, Dartmoor. The students took on a variety of challenges, including using paper maps and compasses to navigate the area, cooking their own meals, and setting up tents.
Students had the chance to explore Kings Tor and Fogginator Quarry, with the quarry standing out as a particular favourite. Many commented on how stunning they found the location and felt privileged to experience such a remarkable part of Dartmoor.
The goal of the day was for students to collect points by navigating to different checkpoints, all while competing for the highest score. It was inspiring to witness how the students rose to the occasion, showing outstanding teamwork, independence, and initiative. Their confidence and enthusiasm were clear as they worked with minimal staff guidance.
This training day provided our DofE students with a fantastic opportunity to develop essential skills, strengthen relationships with their peers, and enjoy the natural beauty of Dartmoor. We are excited to see how these skills will enhance their upcoming expeditions.
