BBC Bitesize Careers Tour Inspires Scott Students

Students at Scott College were treated to an inspiring look into the world of work when the BBC Bitesize Careers Tour visited the school this week.
As part of a nationwide tour reaching over 110,000 secondary school students across the UK, the free event brought interactive careers guidance right to Plymouth, helping young minds explore exciting opportunities available on their doorstep.
Held in the Assembly Hall, the event spanned four engaging sessions led by an experienced BBC presenter. Each session featured a dynamic panel discussion with professionals across a range of industries—including an eco-charity worker, a journalism apprentice, and an engineer—who shared their unique career journeys with the host.
Throughout the interactive sessions, students gained practical advice on:
-
Career Pathways & Qualifications: Understanding entry requirements and varied routes into different industries.
-
Work Experience & Soft Skills: Learning about the crucial workplace skills and real-world experiences that employers look for.
-
Personal Insights: Hearing candid anecdotes, successes, and lessons learnt directly from industry professionals.
Students across all year groups had the opportunity to take part in live Q&A segments, asking the panel questions about their fields and getting tailored advice on pursuing their own career ambitions.
Reflecting on the event, Year 10 student Daisy said:
"It was really eye-opening to hear from professionals in different fields, from journalism to engineering. Learning about the different paths they took showed us that there are so many possibilities out there, and it's given me a lot more confidence about planning my own future."
The visit provided a fantastic platform to broaden horizons, boost aspirations, and give our students practical guidance as they begin planning their futures. A huge thank you to the BBC Bitesize team and the visiting panellists for delivering such an engaging and valuable experience for our school community!
