Throughout her week-long placement, Bella immersed herself in every layer of optical healthcare. Her tasks ranged from technical workshop duties to observing qualified optometrists during patient appointments. She gained practical experience using specialist equipment, including ophthalmoscopes and slit lamps, to examine patients' eyes, operating advanced VR headset technology to track eye and head movements for accurate prescription fittings, and even manufacturing lenses on-site. Beyond the clinical realm, Bella also took charge at the front desk, delivering excellent customer service and administrative support.

Reflecting on her time on placement, Bella said:

"I had such an amazing week and loved getting to experience so many different parts of optics. Getting to use the specialist equipment to examine eyes, make actual lenses, and help with real patient cases - like assisting with removing grit from an eye - was incredible. It’s given me so much confidence and a real insight into working in healthcare."
