Student Spotlight: Alumni Bea Reflects on First Year Success at Exeter University
We were absolutely delighted to welcome back former student Bea Bingham recently! Bea dropped by after completing her first year at the University of Exeter, where she is studying for a degree in Politics and Sociology.
Reflecting on her time at Scott College, Bea shared how her A-Level choices and school trips laid the foundation for her journey:
"Scott College really helped map out what and where I wanted to study. Taking Sociology at A-Level is where I really found my passion, and school trips to Exeter University helped me decide exactly where I wanted to go. The teachers and Sixth Form team were incredibly supportive and proactive, even when I changed my mind about my options!"
Now an undergraduate, Bea is fully embracing university life, finishing her first year with a fantastic 2:1.
"I am really enjoying it! The course offers a wide range of learning that keeps it interesting, and the two subjects intertwine really well. Beyond studying, I’ve made lots of friends through my flat and the Politics Society. I also have a part-time job with a company that has stores in both Plymouth and Exeter, letting me flexibly work from either home or uni. Balancing studying, working, and social time can be tricky, but I think I'm managing it well!"
As for what the future holds, Bea is keeping her options open and enjoying the journey.
"Because the course is so broad, I’m going to explore all the routes before making a decision. I’m just so lucky that it opens doors to so many different areas! I’m really looking forward to Year 2 and joining some new societies."
It was wonderful to catch up with Bea. She is a fantastic example of where hard work and determination can lead, and everyone at Scott College wishes her the very best in her second year!
