Future Tech Pioneers: Year 10 Smashes 'Mission to Mars' Work Experience!

Two of our brilliant Year 10 students recently blasted off into the digital world, taking part in an intensive, week-long "Mission to Mars" work experience at Plymouth’s Market Hall.
The programme was part of The Tech Frontier initiative, secured by the Devon, Plymouth & Torbay Careers Hub to inspire the next generation of digital leaders. Working in a professional business environment alongside 30 peers from other schools, our students acted as software developers to code a mock Mars Rover to move independently. They also networked with industry giant Babcock, managing strict budgets and tight deadlines along the way.
The high-stakes week culminated in a spectacular finale inside Market Hall’s immersive Dome, where teams presented their working robots to a panel of industry VIPs.
Our students thrived under the independence and high expectations of the workplace:
"I've had the best time! I've made new friends and learnt how to work together with different people. I've been treated like an adult and we were allowed to schedule our own breaks, so I really felt respected. Presenting our robot in The Dome was just amazing!" - Megan
By mastering complex coding, teamwork, and public speaking, our students proved that the future of Plymouth's tech sector is in very safe hands. Well done to all nine students for their incredible hard work and commitment!
