Celebrating Success: Year 10 celebrate at 'Opportunity Plymouth' University event

Our Year 10 students recently marked the successful completion of the 'Opportunity Plymouth' mentoring programme with an inspiring celebration event hosted at the University of Plymouth.
Run in partnership with the university, this empowering 10-week project pairs Year 10 pupils with trained university student mentors. Through weekly, one-hour sessions, our students spent the last term exploring post-16 destinations, boosting their confidence, setting long-term goals, and receiving invaluable career advice from mentors who were recently in their shoes.
The celebration event gave students a true taste of higher education. Pupils were treated to a guided tour of the campus, getting a first-hand look at university life and had the most incredible brownies! They also dived into hands-on, subject-specific workshops, including building teamwork skills, exploring robotics, and discovering advanced engineering marvels like the university’s massive wave machines. The exciting day concluded with a formal presentation ceremony, where students were awarded certificates to celebrate their dedication.
The programme has clearly had a massive impact on our pupils, inspiring them to think big about what comes after secondary school:
"Getting to talk to a real university student every week made the future feel a lot less scary. Working with the mentors from the university has really made me realise what's possible if I work hard." — Bella, Year 10
With empowerment, collaboration, and personal growth at its absolute core, the project recognises that success is deeply personal and individual to every single student. We are incredibly proud of how our Year 10 students engaged with their mentors and represented the school at the university.
Congratulations to everyone involved!
