It’s in the Bag: Life-Saving Lessons for Year 9 and 10

Year 9 and 10 students at Scott College recently took part in a vital awareness session with the charity It’s in the Bag, focusing on men’s health and the importance of early detection in testicular cancer.

The session, led by Richard Bullard, was designed to strip away the stigma surrounding the disease. Through a blend of humour and hard-hitting facts, Richard provided our young people with the tools to recognise symptoms early, potentially saving lives in the process.

The "It’s in the Bag" charity provides support across the South West: focusing on awareness, survival, and clinical support for those diagnosed. For our students, particularly those at Scott College pursuing healthcare careers, the visit offered a powerful example of patient advocacy and public health education in action.

By bringing these often "taboo" subjects into the classroom, we aim to foster a culture where health is prioritised and seeking help is seen as a sign of strength. The students engaged brilliantly with the presentation, proving that they are ready to lead the way in health awareness for their generation.

Max, Year 10 student, said:

"Early detection is key, and having Richard come in to speak so openly really helped normalise the conversation for us."

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Richard Bullard for his time and for sharing such important, life-saving information with our students.
