Students Meet the Livewell Mental Health in Schools Support Team (MHST)

Our Year 9, 10 and 12 students recently had the opportunity to meet the Livewell Mental Health in Schools Support Team (MHST) and learn about the vital work they do across Plymouth. The team explained how they support children and young people aged 5–17 who may experience low to moderate anxiety, phobias, or low mood, and how they work with schools to promote positive emotional wellbeing for all students.
The MHST team highlighted their goal of helping schools embed a Whole School Approach to emotional health, ensuring support is available early to prevent issues from escalating. They also shared guidance on the referral process, emphasising the importance of checking referral thresholds as a first step.
In addition to discussing the services they provide, the team offered students a behind-the-scenes look at careers in mental health, explaining how they became professionals in the field and the range of roles available.
Year 12 student Eva reflected on the visit, saying: “The mental health talk from Livewell highlighted the importance of recognising early signs of mental health issues and how the Livewell team supports young people in schools. It promoted awareness, empathy, and understanding through real-life scenarios that the team encounters in our community. I enjoyed learning about the work they do and how we can get involved.”
We thank the MHST team for visiting and providing valuable insights into both the support available in schools and the exciting career opportunities in mental health.
