Future Investigators: Students Experience Criminology and Anthropology at Plymouth University

Our Criminology and Sociology students had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in university life during a taster day at Plymouth University. The event offered a hands-on introduction to Criminology, Sociology, and Anthropology, delivered through engaging workshops led by expert lecturers.

One of the standout experiences was the crime suite challenge, where students took on the role of detectives. They examined evidence, pieced together clues, and debated their theories on what had happened and who might be involved. This interactive session gave them a real-world glimpse into criminology in action.

The day also featured an inspiring lecture from Dr. Ivan Tacey, an Anthropology lecturer who shared stories from his two decades of fieldwork with the Batek people, hunter-gatherers residing in one of Malaysia’s last tropical rainforests. His fascinating insights provided a deeper understanding of Anthropology and its relevance at university level.

By the end of the visit, many students felt motivated and enthusiastic about the possibility of pursuing Criminology, Sociology, or Anthropology after school. This experience was not only educational but also a catalyst for new academic ambitions.
